CALL FOR PROPOSALS:

Deadline:  Ongoing
BBAP is looking for a few good proposals for public projects in the Houston area. Though we are still accepting proposals for installation at the ArtPark, we are branching out. We want to see proposals for interesting temporary work all over Houston. BBAP can help you get the necessary permits and provide money for materials and honorarium. You come up with the great idea, and we will try and make it happen. What we need from you:

1. Written description of the project, with as much detail as possible. Dimensions, materials, location ideas, plans for making it safe and secure (these are details we can help you with, but it never hurts when they are questions you can answer yourself)

2. Some sort of sketch or visual aid to help us envision your idea. (Again with as much detail as you can think of)

3. Detailed Budget (we don't have a lot of money, but if we love your project we will find a way to fund it, but we want to know how much its going to cost us in the beginning)

4. Images of previous work (digital images are easiest, but we will also accept slides if you are old school)

5. CV/Resume

A few things you should know: our projects generally last from 3 to 9 months. Though they may be less time, they can't often be more. The project needs to be designed to withstand the elements for this amount of time if it is to be installed outdoors. We want interesting and contemporary projects, but since this is in the public sphere we can't really accept anything with nudity, profanity, sharp edges, dangerous installation, etc. Common sense should tell you what's probably not acceptable, but if you really don't know, feel free to ask.

Again, I can't emphasize enough including all details you can think of. We see proposals that just leave too many questions unanswered. The more we understand what it is you want to do, and see the thought already put into the project, the more likely we are to accept it. Sometime in the future we will be hosting a project proposal workshop to help people with how to put together proposals.

We will be accepting proposals year round, and will fit them in as the schedule allows. Right now we are looking for a great project for September 2008.

Project proposals can be emailed to bbap@bbap-houston.org , or mailed to P.O.Box 70260, Houston, TX 77270-0260
