Rain Barrel Art Competition Rules and Regulations
Purpose:
BBAP’s Rain Barrel Art Competition seeks to bring public art into Houston communities while promoting conservation and environmental awareness. Alone or with your co-workers, friends or family create your own piece of art, and have fun. There is both an on-site art competition, and an installed art competition. So if you want more time to prepare your rain barrel, pick it up on October 16 and spend up to three weeks working on your entry. Must Pre-Register to Take Part in Art Competition.
Day-of-Sale Art Competition:
On October 16, 2010, there will be an art competition for turning rain barrels into works of art between 9:00 am and 1:30 pm. The rules for this competition are:
Installed Art Competition:
Entries either created during the day of the sale or before November 6, 2010, can be entered into the installed rain barrel art competition. The rules for this competition are:

Copyrights and Rights of Publicity:
All entrants agree to and grant BBAP permission to take photographs of entrants and entrants’ rain barrel before, during and after the competition. All entrants further grant BBAP a non-exclusive royalty-free license to make, copy, distribute, and display derivative works, as defined by the U.S. copyright law, of entrant’s rain barrel, including but not limited to photographs. Entrant further grants BBAP a perpetual non-exclusive royalty-free license to display, copy, and make derivative works of any photographs taken by or on behalf of BBAP before, during and after the competition for use in any BBAP publication, manual, advertising, report, survey, film, video, production, or web site.
Awards:
Grand Champion Award - open to the best entry from all categories of the Day-of-Sale and Installed Art Competitions.
Platinum Bin Award - open to professional artist and art students for the Day-of-Sale and Installed Art Competitions.
Open Ideas Award - open to non-artist for the Day-of-Sale and Installed Art Competitions.
Green Rain Barrel Award - open to architects and architecture firms for the Installed Art Competition only.
Blue Puddle Award - open to students for the Day-of-Sale and Installed Art Competitions.
Silver Spigot Award - open to teachers, professors, and teams of teachers with their students for the Installed Art Competition.
All awards will be recognized on the BBAP website and additional items will be announced prior to October 16, 2010.

Day-of-Sale Art Competition:
On October 16, 2010, there will be an art competition for turning rain barrels into works of art between 9:00 am and 1:30 pm. The rules for this competition are:
- The completed entry must be able to function as a rain barrel.
- Each entrant is required to leave their competition area as they found it, and should bring a tarp. Entrants may use their own canopy, and may place a sign on their canopy.
- All entrants will be allowed to select from and use various recycled materials that will be available that day, and includes crushed glass, tiles, carpet samples, etc. BBAP does not guarantee that any materials or supplies will be available, and you should plan accordingly.
- All entrants are encouraged to use environmentally friendly products.
- The judging will take place at 1:30 pm.
- Winners will be announced when judging is completed.
Installed Art Competition:
Entries either created during the day of the sale or before November 6, 2010, can be entered into the installed rain barrel art competition. The rules for this competition are:
- Rain barrel must be picked up on October 16, 2010.
The completed entry must be able to function as a rain barrel. - All entrants will be allowed to select from and use various recycled materials that will be available that day, and includes crushed glass, tiles, carpet samples, etc. BBAP does not guarantee that any materials or supplies will be available, and you should plan accordingly.
- All entrants are encouraged to use environmentally friendly products.
- Each entrant must send a photo that is no larger than 3MB of the rain barrel installed in its final location by Midnight on November 6, 2010, to competition@bbap-houston.org.
- Winners will be announced on BBAP’s website on November 10, 2010, and all winners will be notified by email.
